Buy-low on Jaxon Smith-Njigba (surgery)?

smitty-thefantasyfootballshowA lot of people will be running away from Jaxon Smith-Njigba, aka JSN, as he is having wrist surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand/wrist area. I get the concern, as no one wants to go after an injured player; however, a lot of times when an injury occurs (ex: Joe Burrow's calf), there is an overreaction in the fantasy industry that does not proportionally make sense. Everyone panicked about Burrow's calf, and the QB fell from the 4th-round (already a steal) down to the late 5th-round and sometimes even 6th-round. It was madness. It was not proportionate. It was very knee-jerk reaction, and many of us stole Burrow away in Best Ball draft after Best Ball Draft (try Best Ball out here using my code Smitty).

The same thing happened to Kenneth Walker, and still is happening... Zach Charbonnett was drafted by the Seahawks and Walker fell from top 15 overall to becoming a staple in the 4th- to 5th-round. I get Walker on Underdog Fantasy (code Smitty) in the 5th-round like clockwork, which I firmly believe will win leagues. While JSN dropping a round or two won't be as 'league winning' as Walker in 5, or Burrow in 6, it's still a smash, and JSN wasn't going to thrive in Week 1 anyway. I mean, he could have thrived in Week 1, but we were not expecting that. Instead, JSN had that "mid-season monster" vibe, especially as he worked himself into three wide receiver sets, something the Seahawks don't usually run a lot of, but we all know that Pete Carroll knows what he is doing and is surely going to start running more three wide receiver sets.

To have JSN 'maybe' miss Week 1, which is the current thinking, I don't get the freaking out and panic. I don't pretend to want to get it, though... I merely want to scream from the rooftops that JSN was climbing higher than I wanted him to prior to the wrist surgery news... he was nearing the middle of round 5 on Underdog and probably the top of round 6 in non-Best Ball drafts... well, the news of his surgery and being questionable for Week 1 will sink his ADP until round 8 in many cases, which turns him into a player that is close to being league winning. I think he can drop elite WR2 numbers by mid-season. Enjoy his ADP dip while it lasts, as I wouldn't be shocked if he climbs back into round 6 just prior to Week 1.

Prediction: JSN will be the Seahawks #1WR from Weeks 8 on.

Got JSN at round 8.6 in a 12 team league. I’ll take it.

That’s amazing value, bro. Perfectly executed. League winning move, now just wait on him!
